Checklist for hiring a Professional Face Painter

Face painters are a great addition to any celebration or party.  They add sparkle and color to any celebration, craft fair, birthdays or corporate events.  When hiring a face painter for an event, you want to make sure that you and your guests are being painted by a professional.  Please take a look at the list below for pointers on what to look for when hiring a face painter:

  • Do they have Public Liability Insurance specifically for face painting and body art? This cannot be emphasized enough; you want to check with the Face Painter or entertainment company before you hire them if they have insurance.
  • Are they Licensed and Registered with the City or County? When hiring a Face Painter you want to make sure that they are a reputable company.
  • Materials: Does the artist use FDA Approved products, as well as environmentally friendly products?  You want to make sure that  your Face Painter uses professional, cosmetic grade and hypo-allergenic face paint, glitter and tools that are specifically designed for face painting as well as FDA Approved. It is also a good idea to ask the Face Painter if they use environmentally friendly products.  Do they use biodegradable glitters and vegan, cruelty free paints?
  • Hygiene: Do they have a hygiene practice in place when working to avoid spreading infectious diseases? Do they use only one sponge per client? Do they use hand sanitizer generously and have a clean and organized Face Painting Kit?
  • Website, Social Media: Does your Face Painter have a website where you can see the quality of their work?  Do they have active social media pages? You want to find out if your Face Painter has a web page where you can see the quality of their work.
  • Quality of their work/ Professionalism: You want to make sure that you leave satisfied after hiring a Face Painter. Does their art work just make you say "WOW!!" ? You will know that you have hired the right Face Painter if when they leave you just say "WOW!, that was the Best Face Painter!" You also want to make sure that your Face Painter has a good attitude and that is professional, punctual and friendly. Another factor to consider is speed.  Typically, a professional face painter can paint a child in less than 5-10 minutes. You don't want to have your guests be waiting forever to be painted. Before hiring a Face Painter ask them how many people they can paint per hour.
